Morocco is hoping that it can take the lead in the world of home decor by selling off a wide variety of items.
The country’s government has launched a pilot program in which stores that sell furniture and accessories will be allowed to sell up to 10 percent of their inventory to consumers.
The government is planning to sell the products of up to 50,000 shops.
The plan is to reduce the cost of production and reduce waste in the country’s economy, the country said in a statement.
Morocco has already sold off its entire furniture inventory and a similar move is expected to follow.
The country has been hit hard by the economic crisis and has struggled to rebuild its retail and restaurant industries in the wake of the unrest in the Middle East.
